My Relationship with Food

I chose the word "relationship" for this title because I interact with food daily, just as I interact with the people in my life. It sounds like food is alive, right? I learned this unique concept about the CHI of food from Michio and Aveline Kushi. I had the great pleasure of studying the Macrobiotic diet and lifestyle with them and graduated from the extension program in 1993.

I learned that food has a life force, an energy field that can be photographed by Kirlean photography. This teaching about the chi or life force of food has been a life-altering concept that has sustained MY life force/ chi for the past 20 years. I equate food, which is alive, with the people that I am cooking for, who are alive. At a cooking class in Cleveland, I had the honor of assisting Aveline Kushi at a cooking class. Not surprisingly, she was talking to the lotus root that was in the pot!

I was teaching a cooking class at Mustard Seed Market and Café in Akron, Ohio. After the class, a lady came up to me and said that she was adopting a young child and wanted to cook healthy for him. She concluded by saying that she would go shopping for vegetables for the whole year and store them in her freezer. In her mind, buying organic produce and freezing it for the whole year was healthy. I studied her for a moment wondering how to respond gently about the chi of food. I noticed that she had no spark, vitality, or the essential chi needed for the task at hand. She had a pallor that was indicative of lack of chi in food. I simply stated that buying fresh produce every week was a lot healthier than buying one time for the whole year and freezing it! I am deeply grateful to the Kushi Institute for teaching me about the energetics or chi in fresh organic whole food.

Would you like to experience the effect that fresh, whole organic food can have on your vitality? Whole, unadulterated food makes you feel complete, whole and satisfied. Food that is fractionated and incomplete makes you feel incomplete and unsatisfied.

I would like to open up the following food options for you. I am available to teach cooking classes for you, either hands on or demonstration style. I live in Telluride, Colorado and would like to invite you to visit here. You can spend three days or longer in the Rockies at 9000 feet viewing spectacular 14,000 foot mountain panoramas out of my kitchen window/walls of glass. You can experience first hand the benefit of fresh organic whole grains, legumes, vegetables, miso soup and non-dairy, non-sugar desserts.

It will be a life-altering experience and you will leave knowing the basics of cooking healthy, wholesome and delicious macrobiotic meals. We will cook a wide variety of grains (rice, millet, barley, teff), savory soups, legumes, lentils, chick peas, anasazi beans, and mouth-watering desserts like carrot cake, rice krispy treats, raspberry almond flan, grain sweetened chocolate chip cookies and other foods too numerous to mention.

I invite you for a Rocky Mountain retreat that will alter how you feel. Other options can be tailored to fit your personal needs. Outdoor choices are: hiking on 70 acres, tenting, skiing, hot mineral springs, Jeeping, in season. Indoor options are: use of radiant heat sauna (flushes heavy metals out), treadmill, rebounder, and Biobreath Kinetics with Carry Wolf on video. Also available are home remedies of all kinds: ginger compresses, salt water baths, daikon hip baths, body scrubs, body brushing and shiatsu massage.

You can tell me what your requirements are and what you want to accomplish on your retreat. Together we can tailor a program to fit your needs. Besides cooking classes and wholesome macrobiotic meals, lectures are available on Feng Shui and BioGeometry. Copies of my OVERNIGHT CONGEE COOKLET and FENG SHUI FOR HARMONY HANDBOOK are included.

The investment for 3 days and 3 nights is $588 for one person, $1000 for two. If you are flying into Telluride or Montrose Colorado, the price also includes transport to and from the airport, all nutritious meals and 3 nights stay in a spacious, non-carpeted, non-toxic log home. Side tours into the historic silver and gold mining town of Telluride are also available.

If you are interested in my presence at your facility, I can present a three day/evening retreat, cooking, feng shui and/or biogeometry for you and your group. Call 970.901.9871 or email me at Barb Jurecki. There is a TREAT in reTREAT! So come experience the CHI of whole food!
